Pursued his 6-year medical education in Istanbul University’s Istanbul Faculty of Medicine (Çapa) between 1990-1996.

After graduation in 1996, in September of the same year, he had passed the Medical Speciality Exam with the highest degree and earned the right to pursue his speciality education at the top ranked department — Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty Department of Ophthalmology at Istanbul University.

In 2000, he completed his speciality education in Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty Department of Ophthalmology at Istanbul University.

From 2000 to 2006, he worked as an ophthalmology specialist in the same clinic.

In this period, he started the Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) polyclinic in Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty Department of Ophthalmology. Previously, the diagnosis, followup and treatment (laser and surgery) activities were being conducted within the Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty Ophthalmology Research Center. He started the ROP polyclinic in the Department of Ophthalmology and for 4 years, he continued conducting all these activities as an individual on his own.

The first laser treatment for ROP in Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty Department of Ophthalmology has been applied by him in April 2000.

After earning his degree in 2006, he was appointed as an Associate Professor in Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty Department of Ophthalmology in 2007. In this period, he worked as a consultant M.D. of vitreoretinal surgery for Yeditepe University Eye Hospital, Memorial Hospital and Goztepe Education and Research Hospital.

From 2012 to 2014, he had to take an unpaid leave from the university and left Cerrahpasa as imposed by the law — known as the “full-day law” in short — which inhibited the academic personnel of the universities from being self-employed or employed in private sector. At the end of his leave, he returned to the university and earned the Professor degree in 2015.

Throughout his 2-year unpaid leave period, he started working as a full-time vitreoretinal surgery consultant M.D. for Yedikule Surp Pirgic Armenian Hospital, in which he first started working as part-time employed during his off-hours, since it was the affiliation hospital of Istanbul University.

Besides, in the same period, he had conducted joint research activities at San Raffaele Institute in Milano, Italy with Prof. Francesco Bandello — the president of the institute and the then-president of European Retina Society (EURETINA) — and his team.

Still he continues to occupy his role as a professor in Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty Department of Ophthalmology.
